ByeTunes v2.6 – Favorites, Playlist Pinning & Background Downloads Reworked Hi guys, here is the 2.6 update for ByeTunes. A good amount of things got added, fixed and improved in this one. You can now properly favorite injected songs, pin playlists from inside ByeTunes, and keep downloads going in the background with a new Picture in Picture window. There were also a bunch of fixes around metadata, library management and database safety. Favorites There are three new options inside Library Repair: Create Favorites Playlist creates the Favorites playlist using the right name for your device region. Fix Missing Favorites repairs songs injected with an older version that you already favorited but that never actually appeared in Favorites. Delete Favorites Playlist lets you delete that playlist from Library Repair. Songs injected from 2.6 onwards now get their store IDs during injection, so you can favorite them right away. If the metadata fetcher finds a match, ByeTunes uses the IDs from that match. Songs without a match get generated IDs instead. Quick recommendation: if you have older injected songs that you favorited but cannot find in Favorites, run Fix Missing Favorites inside Library Repair. Playlist Pinning You can now pin and unpin playlists from the On-Device Library. Long-press a playlist or use the Pin button from inside it. Keep in mind: pinning and unpinning these playlists needs to be done through ByeTunes. The Pin option inside the Apple Music app does not work for them. Background Downloads Background downloads got a big rework. ByeTunes now uses silent audio to keep downloads going in the background, with an optional Picture in Picture window so you can see what is happening after leaving the app. The window shows the current song's progress, what is next in the queue, and when metadata is being fetched. You can also customize it with themes, your own colors or a background picture. There is a live preview in Settings so you can see how it looks before using it. This replaces the old background download behavior and Live Activity support. Download progress now shows in the Picture in Picture window. If the app closes while songs are still downloading, those songs go back to the front of the queue the next time you open ByeTunes. Pause and Cancel were fixed too. They now properly stop background transfers instead of accidentally starting a fallback download after you already paused or cancelled the song. Download Queue & Saving Files Downloaded songs now get their metadata as part of the download process. You will see a "fetching metadata" state before the song is marked as done, instead of that work being left to a separate background metadata manager. A few other things got added or improved: Clear All for completed items in the queue sheet. Preview buttons in the album sheet and artist profile. Icons instead of text in the download queue indicator. Downloads are now limited to 2 at a time for MP3 and 1 for FLAC, matching what the server supports. (This is temporal until I can pay for a better provider) A server status banner appears when the server goes into maintenance. Downloads are blocked while the server is down. A new Save With Fetched Metadata toggle that writes the fetched tags and cover artwork into the MP3 and FLAC copies you save. Metadata Fixes Metadata matching got a lot of attention in this update. There were cases where a remix could get the original song's information, or a song could get renamed to a different track from the same album. Those issues should now be fixed. Downloaded songs now look up the exact Deezer track and album. An Apple Music match is only accepted if it belongs to the same album. Apple Music track matching now checks the title, so songs should no longer get relabeled as another track from that album. Apple Music search pages are requested in English so ByeTunes can find the Songs and Albums sections even when using a non-English storefront. A Deezer result with missing artwork or an unreadable item no longer causes the entire search to come back empty. The broken song.link mapping was replaced with Deezer matching, and download failures now show more accurate messages. FLAC handling was improved too. Some changes in the downloaded files were causing every song to take the album name as its title when an ALBUMTITLE tag was present. That is fixed now. Album artist is also read correctly from files using the ALBUM ARTIST or album_artist tags. Library Management Added sorting, a genre filter and multi-delete to the Library management tab. Fixed an issue where the library would only show some of your songs, for example just 50 tracks. ByeTunes was only scanning one folder. It now scans all folders so the rest of your songs show up too. Injected songs now use the file's creation date for a more accurate date. Deleting songs also cleans up any albums, artists and artwork entries left empty after the deletion. Stability, Backups & Database Safety There were also several fixes to make injection, transfers and backups more reliable: One unreadable local file no longer stops the whole injection batch. The export folder is checked before transferring files. If it cannot be used, ByeTunes falls back to its own Exports folder. Snapshot backups keep the previous snapshot until the new one finishes successfully, and only replace snapshots of the same kind. The heartbeat timeout handles stale connection attempts more reliably. Matched songs now save their real catalog ID in match_redownload_params instead of placeholder text. Overall stability and database safety were improved too. Cleanup The old background metadata manager and its pending import pipeline were removed, since downloaded songs now get their metadata directly during the download process. The Live Activity extension and download tracking were also removed as part of the move to Picture in Picture, along with the old background download behavior and unused code. Official Backend & Building Your Own I also added BACKEND_TERMS.md, which explains how the official hosted backend may be used. Modified builds need to use their own backend. If you are building ByeTunes yourself, Config.example.plist is now included as a template for the backend address. The README explains how to set it up. I also reorganized the project structure. Files are now grouped into proper folders so everything is easier to find and work on. This should help anyone working on their own fork of ByeTunes understand where things are and make changes more easily. I am also considering a bigger rewrite of the app down the road, so this cleanup is a step towards that, but nothing is confirmed yet. Thanks as always to everyone testing ByeTunes, sending logs and reporting what breaks. Hope you guys enjoy this update.

Hi guys, here's the 2.5 update for ByeTunes. This one adds full Deezer support and real parallel downloads for way faster queues, plus a brand new Smart Playlists feature with custom cover art. On top of that, a bunch of reliability fixes across downloads, backups, and repair tools — including a crash fix for the download queue. Quick recommendation: for the best speed and match accuracy while searching, set Deezer as your Search Provider. And to keep full Apple Music compatibility (animated artwork, richer info), keep Apple Music as your Metadata Source. Deezer — full provider support Deezer is now a full first-class search source alongside Apple Music/iTunes, with its own tab ("Search or paste a Deezer link") Paste a Deezer track/album/artist/playlist link and it resolves directly — same one-tap flow Apple Music/Spotify links already had Deezer artist pages now show real top tracks + full discography (up to 100 each), not just a flat track list Deezer search results paginate ("load more"), merged into the same song/album results as other providers "Find on Deezer" added alongside "Find on Spotify" as an in-app browser shortcut for failed downloads Download Engine — real concurrency & speed Downloads used to run one at a time through a single sequential task; now use a real worker-pool so multiple tracks download in parallel Concurrency is format-aware: 3 simultaneous downloads for lossy formats, capped to 2 for lossless (FLAC/ALAC), since lossless generation is much more expensive on the backend Added a start-pacer that spaces out when new downloads begin (wider gap for lossless) on top of the concurrency cap — bursts of simultaneous requests were triggering backend 429/500 errors even within the concurrency limit Fixed the download engine getting silently recreated from scratch whenever the Download tab's view was torn down (older iOS layout) — was orphaning in-flight downloads and losing queue state; now backed by a shared instance that survives it Aggregate download speed now tracked and shown live across all active downloads Background Downloads Fixed isAppActive defaulting to true on a silent background relaunch, which routed transfers through the short-lived foreground path instead of the durable background session (caused FLAC→MP3 downgrades and stalls) Fixed the candidate fallback loop not checking cancellation, which let a cancelled foreground download silently complete via the MP3 fallback instead of aborting Completed-but-unclaimed background download results now persist to disk so a killed/relaunched app recovers them instead of re-downloading Finished tracks now persist their own .done state so a relaunch mid-queue doesn't drop them from Queue Details Added a genuine background-processing task (registered at launch) so metadata fetching can run even when the app isn't open, instead of only opportunistically while active Each backend candidate now uses its own requested format for its file-extension fallback instead of a hardcoded "flac" default Plain-language failure messages in the download queue instead of raw HTTP/backend error bodies Fixed link.deezer.com short links not resolving Fixed a crash: removing a failed download could resurrect it (and crash on the second removal) because a stray background-session completion callback fired after removal and wrote the state back. Removal now properly cancels the underlying background task too. Smart Playlists Create playlists by rule: Genre, Artist, Decade, Format, or Explicit Rating Multi-select across all rule types with combined naming (e.g. "Rock, Pop" or "1990s, 2000s") Live match counts, search within Genre/Artist lists, lossless-format badges Artist grouping splits collab credits ("A & B") into separate artists, matching the on-device Artists tab "Refresh Smart Playlist" — remembers its rule and can re-sync to catch newly matching songs Playlists New naming screen matches Apple Music: photo picker, large title field, X/checkmark controls — used for manual and smart playlist creation alike Custom playlist cover photos: pick a photo, it's auto-cropped to a square and uploaded using the same on-device artwork system Apple Music itself uses; persists across relaunch In-playlist rename Playlist restore now lists which specific tracks failed to match instead of just a count On-Device Library Select/Select All controls pinned so they stay visible while scrolling Select/Select All/Add to Playlist/Add to Album/Export restricted to the Songs tab; Playlists tab gets Select/Select All/Export/Delete Removed redundant header title/count and Export Folder picker from non-Songs tabs Audio Quality Analysis (new): tapping a song shows a verdict flagging mislabeled files (e.g. an MP3 renamed .flac), suspiciously over-compressed "lossless" files, and low-bitrate lossy files On-device album metadata editing In-place device audio file replacement Content Rating redesigned from a cramped segmented control to a compact menu row, with a new "No Rating" option Fixed the explicit/clean rating editor: a binary toggle could only ever write explicit/none, silently flipping "clean" tracks to explicit Reliability Fixes Injection failures no longer silently drop songs from the queue — unconfirmed songs are put back Repair operations (artwork fix, database doctor, alphabetical order) use per-operation cancellation tokens instead of one shared flag, so cancelling one can no longer kill an unrelated one Background metadata fetch no longer double-imports a song if the process is killed mid-drain Artwork upload failures during metadata edits are now reported instead of silently swallowed A failed database integrity check now aborts the library merge instead of writing on top of a known-corrupt database Fixed the large-batch injection safeguard checking the wrong count Fixed byetunes://download deep links opening the wrong tab on iOS 16–18 Fixed a Live Activity race that could resurrect it right after ending; orphaned Live Activities from a killed session now clean up on cold launch Removed dead Tidal/Qobuz code and a broken last-resort Spotify mapping fallback Backup & Restore Merged Light/Full Backup toggle and "Export Full Library" into two direct-action rows; Full Backup always bundles per-playlist files Settings Store Region picker upgraded from a simple inline row to a full searchable, alphabetically-grouped screen with flags About/Credits moved to its own section, separate from actionable controls Added "Keep Local Metadata" to skip the fetch pipeline for imported local files

2.4
5. Juli 2026
Hi guys, here is the 2.4 update for ByeTunes. This one is focused a lot on making downloads, backups, playlists and repair tools way more reliable and easier to use. Downloads can now keep going in the background. If you turn on background downloads in Settings, ByeTunes can continue an active download after you leave the app or lock your phone instead of making you babysit the download screen. There is also Live Activity support now. When background downloads are enabled you can turn on Live Activity Progress and see the current download progress on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Metadata fetching for downloaded songs was improved too. ByeTunes can now keep track of downloaded files that still need metadata and finish that work in the background, so songs downloaded from the Download tab should still get cleaned up and enriched even if you do not manually open the Music tab right away. Small disclaimer for background downloads: Because of how iOS handles background tasks, ByeTunes may sometimes disappear from the screen or be suspended/terminated by iOS while background downloads are turned on. This does not always mean the download stopped. In most cases, the background download session can keep running and ByeTunes will recover the download state when the app is opened again. If you manually force close the app from the app switcher, iOS may stop background activity until you open ByeTunes again. Opus support was added too. ByeTunes can now detect and handle Opus downloads properly instead of treating them like an unknown audio file type, so downloads that come back as Opus should be saved and processed with the right extension. The download queue is more persistent now. If the app closes or gets interrupted, ByeTunes saves the active queue, failed items, progress state and pending metadata work so it can recover better next time. Failed Apple Music downloads also give a clearer message now, and there is a helper to find the song on Spotify when Apple Music cannot be used for that track. I also cleaned up the Download tab search bar. You can now use the same bar to search or paste an Apple Music, Spotify or Deezer link instead of having to think so much about where the link came from. Backup and Restore got a big rework. There is now a dedicated Backup & Restore section with a cleaner Manage Backups screen. You can still do light database backups or full backups with song files. Playlist backup and restore was added too. You can back up playlists using a 3mu file on your device, then restore them later, or even share them with your friends. ByeTunes tries to match the songs already on the device when restoring, so playlists can be recreated without needing to re-inject every song again. The On-Device Library browser got a lot better. You can now browse songs, artists, albums and playlists, manage playlists from inside ByeTunes, add songs to playlists, remove songs from playlists, rename/delete playlists and export songs with a saved export folder. The repair tools were moved into a proper Library Repair area. Clean & Repair Library is now separated from Backup & Restore, and there are clearer tools for fixing ghost songs, broken alphabetical ordering, artwork issues and album artwork refreshes. There were also a bunch of smaller fixes and cleanups around metadata, backups, device library browsing, download recovery, queue handling and settings organization. Thanks as always to everyone testing ByeTunes, sending logs and reporting what breaks. Hope you guys enjoy this update.

2.3
15. Juni 2026
Hi guys, here is the 2.3 update for ByeTunes. I know its been quite sometime since the last update but i was finally able to get my hands to work again. A good amount of things got added, fixed and improved in this one. From now on I am hosting our own server so we don't rely on external servers anymore, I am solely assuming the cost of this server myself however if anybody is willing to support us there is a new option to support us inside the settings tab. Whoever does will be featured in the settings tab. You can now also search and download from Spotify directly. Spotify has been added as a search provider in the Download tab right next to Apple Music. You can paste a Spotify link or search by name and it works the same way as everything else. Downloads now have a Pause and a Cancel button while a download is in progress. You can pause a download mid-flight and resume it, or cancel it without having to clear the entire queue. The output format setting was broken. If you had FLAC selected, downloads would sometimes come in as MP3 anyway. That was a bug where the format preference was not being read correctly when using the auto backend path. That is fixed now and the format you pick in settings is what you actually get. There is a new On-Device Library section in Settings. It lets you browse all the songs currently injected on your connected device. From there you can edit metadata, delete songs, and export files. It is disabled and grayed out when no device local tunnel vpn is connected. When you are manually editing a song's metadata, there is now a Custom Album Color option. If you turn it on, a color picker shows up and you can pick any color you want for the album background inside the music app. On the fixes side, there was a crash that could happen in the download backend when a custom download handler was used instead of a URL request. That is fixed. The metadata parser had a bug where if a filename contained "feat." in the title, the heuristic would swap the title and artist around. That is also fixed. Thanks as always to everyone testing and sending logs. Hope you enjoy this one.

V2.2
28. April 2026
Hi Guys, I'm glad to introduce you guys the 2.2 update of ByeTunes which has a lot of new features, fixes and improvements. This version adds support for dolby atmos files, keep in mind the badge inside the music app will not be displayed but if you go to your control center and see the audio volume slider you can see when a dolby atmos song is being played. Improvement on FLAC format files handling, I have improved how the import logic was parsing files information as sometimes files were being imported using its own UDID instead of the right name/artist or album. You can now browse by album and by artist instead of just searching track by track. There is also a provider picker so you can switch between Apple Music, Tidal, or iTunes and Deezer. I have also added a preview play button next to the download button of each song so you.can listen to a preview before you download the song. There is a new settings screen just for the Downloader, Metadata source, lyrics preferences, store region, and a few other options that were buried before are all in one place now. Fixed a heartbeat issue that could cause stale reconnect loops to stack up after disconnecting and reconnecting the device. Fixed a lyrics database insert that was failing silently on certain iOS versions and Cleaned up the log viewer so now it only shows what actually matters.

V2.1
8. April 2026
Hi Guys this update is mainly focused on iOS 26.4 support and its new rppairing. Big disclaimer for iOS 26.4 and newer: Injection is noticeable slower than it was on older iOS versions. That is because Apple now requires the new RP Pairing method for this path, and RP Pairing goes through a heavier tunnel/RSD/AFC route than the old regular pairing file method. I tried to reduce extra reconnects pings where I could, but the new Apple-required method is still slower by nature. If you are on iOS 26.4 or newer, the app will ask you to import an RP Pairing File. That popup will stay there until you import the correct file. The app also validates pairing files now. So if somebody imports the wrong file, ByeTunes should reject it instead of accepting it and crashing later. iOS 26.4 changed how Apple Music displays artwork and background colors. Because of that, older injected songs could show artwork in some places but still have a gray background or missing display artwork in the newer Apple Music views. This update adds the new iOS 26.4+ artwork database support. Injected songs on iOS 26.4 and newer now get the new artwork rows they need. iOS 26.3.x and lower keep the older database behavior, so they do not get the new iOS 26.4-only changes. Apple Music artwork colors are now used too. When ByeTunes fetches Apple Music metadata, it now reads the artwork color data Apple provides and uses that for the new iOS 26.4 background colors. If Apple does not provide colors, ByeTunes falls back to local artwork color sampling. Added Fix Artwork in Settings. This is only visible on iOS 26.4 and newer. It is meant for songs you injected before updating to iOS 26.4. Fix Artwork will try to repair the artwork and colors for those older injected songs. Internet is required because it fetches the colors from Apple Music. There is now a Full Backup option in Settings. If Full Backup is off: ByeTunes makes the smaller database-only backup like before, this is mainly for people who only uses ByeTunes as their music manager. If Full Backup is on: ByeTunes saves a full local copy of the database and media files. This is useful if a PC sync or external sync deletes the songs from the device, because a database-only backup cannot restore files that are gone. Backup and restore now show proper progress popups. So instead of just seeing a spinner, you can see what step ByeTunes is working on. Added an update checker. ByeTunes now checks the GitHub releases page when opening the app. If a newer version is available, it shows a popup with a link to download the latest release. You can also tap the Version row in Settings to check for updates manually. Added a downloader server chooser in Settings. You can now choose: Auto Yoinkify HiFi One HiFi Two Auto keeps the normal fallback behavior. Choosing one server forces that backend. ByeTunes now supports more lyrics sources: LRCLIB Musixmatch NetEase The manual lyrics search now lets you choose the lyrics service. Automatic lyrics fetching also uses a fallback chain between services. Added support for choosing a custom downloaded songs folder. If you keep downloaded songs locally, ByeTunes can now use a saved folder bookmark instead of always using the default app folder. Improved logs. You can now copy logs from the log viewer. Exported logs now use a stable Logs/MusicManager_Logs.txt file instead of making a new timestamped file every time. Improved duplicate review UI. The duplicate review screen should be clearer now when choosing which detected duplicates to keep or skip. Thanks again to everybody testing ByeTunes, sending logs, databases and feedback. This update touches a lot of sensitive iOS 26.4 stuff, so that testing helped a lot. Hope you guys enjoy this update.

V2.0
16. März 2026
This is a really big update and i wanna say probably the biggest one for ByeTunes. A lot of things got added, improved and fixed in this version. Main thing to know first: Ringtone injection for iOS 18 and lower is disabled for now. I tried hard to make it work properly with all the logs, databases and files some of you sent me, but at this point I really need an iOS 18 or lower device on my hands to fully debug it correctly. Thanks to everybody who helped by sending logs and testing. Now for the good news. Added a new in-app FLAC downloader tab. You can now download songs straight from within ByeTunes without needing to leave the app. With the new downloader you can: Download individual songs Queue multiple songs Download full albums Choose only specific songs from an album instead of downloading the whole thing Downloaded songs now go through Apple Music metadata fetching automatically, so songs added from the downloader should already come with much better metadata. Added a new setting to keep downloaded songs locally. If enabled, downloaded songs will also be saved inside the app folder. If disabled, they are only used for injection and cleaned up later. Improved metadata fetching a lot. Metadata fetching from Apple Music is now much better and fills way more song fields correctly. This includes better support for: Full screen artwork Animated artwork compatibility Copyright info Label/company Disc numbers Track numbers Better album/song level metadata overall Added automatic Music app killing before injection. When injecting songs, ByeTunes now kills the Music app process first to reduce database corruption and random crashes as much as possible. This was tested many times and made injection way more reliable. Removed the ringtone tab on iOS 26. It is not needed there anymore because iOS 26 already introduced native ringtone management. Fixed song sorting. Songs now sort way better by song name and artist. Very big batch injections can still leave 1 or 2 songs a little out of place sometimes, but re-injecting those usually fixes it. Fixed artwork getting overridden by other songs. This was a major annoying bug and it should now be properly fixed. Improved big batch importing and injecting. Large libraries are handled much better now, and importing/injecting big amounts of songs is way more stable than before. Added snapshot backup/restore in settings. Even though database corruption is much less likely now, it is always better to have a safety option. You can create a snapshot/backup and restore it later if something goes wrong. Last but not least I have added different devices/regions databases support. Turns out devices in different regions handle databases differently so now it should work regardless. Thanks again to everybody helping test ByeTunes and sending logs, files and feedback. Hope you guys enjoy this update.
